HIGHLY RESPONSIBLE STRAIN SELECTION TIPS

Strain selection is a personal discovery. What works for you is unique so don’t base your flower choice on your friends’ or family members’ strain selections… or your budtender’s for that matter.

Former GM for The Cannabist, the Denver Post’s cannabis paper of record, Brad Bogus has a background in content marketing and multimedia, co-founding the multimedia production company Makeshift Productions in 2003 and the marketing and advertising agency Speak Social in 2010. As VP of Growth and Marketing for Confident Cannabis, Brad’s tasked primarily with developing marketplace brand awareness and communication strategy. Brad studied theatre, acting, and directing with an emphasis on Shakespeare at Texas State University, then University of Houston in the BFA programs. He’s unreasonably passionate about punk rock, art (he paints, plays music, and sketches), astrophysics, history, and the outdoors—from bouldering and hiking, to competing in the 420 Games.

Simplify the science by starting with “big” flavor profiles to decipher how those terpenes make you feel. What does that look like?! Choose strains with names that give you an indication of what they smell like - i.e. Cherry Pie, Lemon Tree, Blueberry Muffin, Huckleberries, etc. Which ones make you feel good? Which ones are a “Hell No!”? And then write that shit down in your dosage tracker.

Take notes and discover which terpene profiles work best for you and how each strains treats your specific needs. You’ll discover a pattern.

Don’t get discouraged! Experimentation takes time and is a healthy part of the discovery process. You do the same thing when trying anything new. Don’t try to drink from the firehouse! Cannabis exploration is fun and will build your canna confidence and plant knowledge faster than trying to memorize the science.

Bookmark CONNECT and use it as a resource to find strains similar to the ones that work for you. This is the “doing your homework” part of cannabis selection until the industry catches up and starts providing better information to consumers at the point of purchase.

Find your favorite strains in CONNECT. Explore the chemical components of the flower that make it unique and then click on other strains around it to find new strains to sample with similar chemistry.
