Potcast 173: Cannabis and Brain Injury Research
Potcast 173 features one of my favorite cannabis scientists to talk about brain injuries and the use of cannabis as a treatment tool. You last met Dr. Linda Klumpers during our discussion about tolerance breaks and cannabis during pregnancy on Potcast 155.
Today Linda and I discuss the basics of brain injury and the varying cognitive and emotional effects. We explore the pitfalls of diagnosing brain injury, what the existing research suggests about cannabis as a neuro-protectant, and the politics blocking researchers and folks like you and me from learning more. I also ask Linda about the long-term implications of head trauma on adult brains and the developing brains of kids. Not everything we talk about is comfortable but everyone deserves the insight to make informed decisions.
Please share the love by rating and reviewing Casually Baked on iTunes or Apple Podcasts. These little acts of support might only take a few seconds of your time, but make a huge impact in helping others find this highly responsible cannabis content.
Puff puff, pass it on. 💚✨ -Jo

Cannabidiol for PTSD and TBI
As Dr. Klumpers and I discuss on the potcast, there are not nearly enough studies exploring TBI and CTE. Here’s the one upcoming study she mentioned.
The proposed study is an eight-week double-blind randomized placebo-controlled parallel dose-finding study of CBD's effects on PTSD symptoms and neurocognitive function in 120 patients with moderate to severe PTSD, 50% with comorbid mild-moderate TBI. There will be three arms, CBD 400 mg daily (n=40); CBD 600 mg daily (n=40) and placebo daily (n=40).
