“After the Show” Notes

Crystal and me out for a walk around Lake Merritt in Oakland during her visit.

Dionne is fortunate to have a wonderful family living close that offers an extended support system for her and Crystal. So, Dionne suggested Crystal take a breather and fly out to see me for a few days. While my sister was here, we sat down to discuss her experience as a caregiver - where she struggles, what she’s learned, and how her experience might help soothe other caregivers having a similar experience.

Caregivers: Ways to Take Care of Yourself

  1. Ask for and allow help. Be honest about what you need and how you’re doing emotionally.

  2. Make time to rest and take care of yourself.

  3. Be open to alternative/natural solutions.

  4. Support your own immune system and eat healthy.

  5. Smoke plenty of bud to help you relax and ease your mind.

  6. Don’t go overboard or rush anything.

  7. Breathe and get grounded before making a big decision or reacting to a situation.

  8. Be your own best friend and cheerleader. Talk to yourself like you do your bestie!

  9. Look for and recognize the Blessings in every situation that will “make” everything okay.

  10. Give yourself a break. Allow what you’re feeling to be okay. All of the emotions are natural and normal.

Most Importantly:

Believe in what you’re doing. Make a decision and then make it the right one. Let it work for you. And support it supporting you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
